Chronological Order of the Construction and Acquisitions of the Sears Complex 1910 to 2000.
1910
1910 The first building of the new established Sears Dallas Mail Order Plant, a three -story warehouse at Arnold and Lamar Streets (1409 South Lamar Street) is officially opened on September 24.
1913
1913 A nine-story edition adjoining the north end of the three-story 1910 warehouse is completed in January
1915
A 10-story tower and an additional nine story structure and Club Building are opened.
1920
Demolition of 1910 building begins a new construction phase.
1925
A new two-story structure is competed. The Lamar Street Retail Store, the third such store to be established in the Sears operations, opens for business during August.
1929
Floors three and four are added to the 1925 building.
1960
The Annex Building at 1325 South Lamar is acquired.
1963
The Mechanized Operating Stock Transport System (MOST) is installed in the nine-story Catalog Order Building. 1409 South Lamar.
1964
A new Retail Automotive Center is opened at 1400 South Lamar Street. A new Territorial Technical Training Center is opened at1319 South Lamar.
1966
Additional floors are added to the Catalog Order Building at 1409 S. Lamar Street. Also a new front entrance is installed at the Retail Store.
1968
The former National Casket Building, located at 1601 S. Lamar Street (five-story office building), is purchased.
1971
The Mary-Mac building is demolished to provide employee parking.
1973
Remodeling of 1601 S. Lamar Street is completed.
1979
The railroad yard between the Lamar Street and Roe Street Warehouses at Austin and Arnold Streets is purchased.
1985
Complete renovation of 1601 S. Lamar Street, which included installing a separate HVAC system, window tinting, upgraded electrical system, etc. is completed.
1992
1601 South Lamar is vacated.
1993
April 20, 1993 is the official last day to process and to ship customer orders from the Dallas Catalog Merchandise Center at 1409 S. Lamar Street.
1997
Matthews Southwest purchases the Sears Dallas Catalog Merchandise Center and initiates concept plans for the South Side On Lamar neighborhood.
1999
The buildings are designated as a national Historic Landmark.
1999
Matthews Southwest donates land to the Dallas Police Department for construction of its new headquarters.
2000
South Side On Lamar, a 457 residential, retail, and commercial conversion, welcomes its first residents.
